Summary Both Gwen and Arthur are dumped right before the holidays. Merlin and Morgana build them up then orchestrate their getting together for Christmas.
Morgana jumped as the door to the flat opened and shut abruptly. She turned to the door and saw Gwen leaning against it. She was bent at the middle as though in pain, but Morgana quickly realized Gwen was crying.
Morgana rushed over to her friend and flatmate. “Gwen, what’s wrong?”
“It’s Lance,” Gwen said through sobs, “He dumped me.”
“Oh Gwen.” Morgana helped Gwen up and embraced her. She led her over to the sofa and settled her down onto it. She sat beside her, gave her a tissue and took her hand. “Tell me what happened.”
“We were at this great Italian place, and I thought things were going great. But then he told me he wasn’t having fun anymore. He dumped me during dessert, can you believe it?” She broke into sobbing again.
“Oh Gwen.” Morgana let her hand go and instead slung an arm around her back. “You go ahead and cry. Can I get you anything? More tissues? Coffee ice cream?”
Gwen looked up. “We have coffee ice cream?”
“Girl, you know it! Picked it up on the way home.”
“Thank you, Morgana.” She hiccupped.
“Of course. I kind of had a feeling we were going to need it today.”

Merlin looked up as Arthur stomped by his desk, opened his office door only to slam it shut. Puzzled, Merlin grabbed Arthur’s mail and walked to the door, where he knocked.
“What?” Arthur yelled from inside.
Merlin took that as an invitation to enter, and opened the door. “So what’s up with you this fine morning?” he asked.
Arthur glared. “Close the door.”
“Yes sir.”
“I’m sorry, Merlin. I had a rough night.”
“What happened?”
“Sophia dumped me. By text.”
Merlin moved closer. “You’re kidding me.” Arthur shook his head. “Wow, that’s cold.”
“You have no idea.”
“Nope, I’ve never been dumped by text.”
“Thanks for your sympathy,” Arthur said dryly. “I mean, I was thinking about asking her to marry me, for crying out loud.”
“Ouch. I’m really sorry about that. You know I’ve got your back. I’d like to give Sophia a piece of my mind for being such a harpy.”
“Don’t worry about it. Besides I can’t let this ruin my Christmas.”
“No, you can’t. Oh, here’s your mail.” Merlin laid the mail down on Arthur’s desk. “Feel better?”
“Not really, but I think I’ll make it.”
“Good. Let me know if you need anything.”
“Well, that is your job.”

Merlin saw Morgana in the break room. “Hey, love, what’s up?”
“Shh, we’re keeping that quiet, remember?” she replied.
“I wish we didn’t have to,” he said, kissing her cheek.
“I know.” She caught his hand and squeezed it. “So what’s new in your neck of the woods?”
“Did Arthur tell you he got dumped last night?”
“No way! She was so into him, or so I thought. What happened?”
“She just texted him.”
Morgana’s mouth fell open. “She did it by text?”
“Yup. Just told him it was over.”
“That’s just cold.”
“That’s what I said. So what’s going on with you?”
“Not so much with me. But Gwen got dumped last night too!”
Merlin stopped filling his coffee cup. “You’re joking. I thought Lance was a classy guy.”
“Apparently not. He told her he ‘wasn’t having fun anymore.’”
“That’s nuts. Gwen is the sweetest person I know.”
“Isn’t she just?”
“We should do something nice for her.”
Morgana grinned. “I fed her coffee ice cream last night.”
“Oh that’s good of you. But what else can we do? And don’t forget poor Arthur. Hmm.”
“Hang on, what if we got them together?”
“It won’t work. She’s not his type.”
“Hear me out. I think it’ll work because she’s not his type.”
Merlin crossed his arms. “Explain.”
“Gwen’s loyal, kind, intelligent, and sweet. These are all qualities that Arthur admires; we know that. She may not be blonde, but I think he’d go for her anyway.”
“I can see it! I think you’re right. And everybody needs somebody at Christmas.”
“I totally agree. Let’s do it.”
Merlin grinned. “Strategy meeting at Gia’s Pizza tonight?”
“You got it. See you tonight.”

That night, they decided that Merlin would work on Arthur and Morgana would work on Gwen. The end goal was to get them together for the company’s Christmas party, and hopefully beyond. They would be good together, they just needed to know that.
Merlin and Morgana arranged for Arthur and Gwen to meet in various places around the company building (and outside it) then watch. They definitely noticed each other, and soon Merlin and Morgana didn’t have to orchestrate meetings anymore. Their first date in particular had the girls and guys raving to each other. That was a proud moment for Merlin and Morgana.
Soon came the night of the Christmas party. Gwen preened in front of her mirror. She looked good—really good, in her opinion. Morgana knocked on her open door. “And how are you getting along?”
“Well, take a look.” Gwen twirled in front of her.
“Yeah, you’ll definitely have Arthur’s eye.”
“Oh I’m glad you think so.”
“So how are things going with him?”
Gwen smiled. “Really well, I think. In fact, I think we might take things to a new level tonight, if you know what I mean.”
“I think I do!” Morgana winked and they both broke out into giggles.
“Are you ready too?”
Morgana performed a curtsey. “I am. What do you think?”
“I think you’ll knock Merlin over.”
“Merlin? I barely know him.”
Gwen shook her finger at her. “No way. You two aren’t fooling anyone. Everyone knows you’re dating.”
“Even my dad?”
“Especially Uther.”
Morgana facepalmed. “So much for keeping it a secret.”
Gwen put a hand on Morgana’s shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. From what I hear, he approves.”
“That’s a relief.” She looked at her watch. “Shall we get going?”
“Of course.” They linked arms and left to hail a taxi.

Merlin was at the party, watching the entrance. Finally he saw Arthur come through and he made his way over to him. “So where’s Gwen?”
“We agreed to meet here. Morgana’s coming with her,” Arthur replied.
“Why would I be concerned about Morgana?”
Arthur laughed. “Oh, come off it. Everyone knows you’re ‘secretly dating.’”
“Really? What about Uther?”
“Yeah, dad knows. He approves, by the way.”
Merlin wiped his brow with a handkerchief. “Oh, that’s good.”
Arthur clapped him on the back. “Come on. Relax and enjoy the party.”
“Is that an order?”
“Absolutely.”
They stood there and watched the entrance, waiting for their women to arrive. Arthur greeted Gwen with a kiss and Merlin took Morgana’s hand.
“Shall we dance?” Merlin suggested.
“Definitely,” replied Morgana.
He led her to the dance floor where they began swaying to the music. “So, our grand plan was a success, don’t you think?”
“Beyond our wildest dreams, I think.” They watched Arthur and Gwen talking for a moment, seeing how affectionate they were with one another.
“Morgana, did you know that everyone knows we’re dating?”
“Gwen Just told me. Can you believe it?”
“Yup. It might be a bummer, but at least I can do this in front of everyone now.” He stopped their movement and bent down to give her a thorough kiss.
Everyone around them stopped dancing and began clapping. Merlin slowly pulled away and bowed while Morgana blushed. It seemed everyone approved. Merlin again swept Morgana into his arms and together they danced the night away.
